About renovatemath
What this site is
renovatemath is a collection of free construction calculators — concrete, lumber, paint, tile, mulch, gravel and more — built for DIY homeowners who want quick, reliable answers before they buy materials or start a project.
No accounts. No forms. No paywalls. You open a calculator, enter your dimensions, and get an answer in seconds.
How we keep the math honest
Every calculator on this site follows three rules:
- Standard formulas. Each tool implements the industry-standard way of calculating the quantity (for example, one cubic yard = 27 cubic feet, or 16×8 in blocks cover 0.89 sq ft each).
- Validated constants. Material yields, coverage rates and other constants are checked against published sources — manufacturers' official calculators, cooperative extension guides and engineering references. Every calculator page lists its sources, and constants we have not yet confirmed are flagged as pending.
- Automated tests. Each calculator's math is locked by automated tests, so a fix to one tool can never silently break another.
Who is behind it
renovatemath is an independent, one-person project. It is not affiliated with any material manufacturer, retailer or trade association. The site is monetized with advertising so the tools stay free.
When to ask a professional
Calculators give you estimates — they do not replace engineering judgment, local building codes or the advice of a licensed contractor. For structural work, always have your plans reviewed by a professional. See our disclaimer for details.
